It offers a streamlined process for individuals who have retired and wish to reside in the country, providing an opportunity to enjoy Costa Rica’s natural beauty, climate, and quality of life during their retirement years. The retirement residency is valid for two years and can be renewed.After having a temporary residence permit for three years, you can apply for a permanent residence permit.

Requirements

Valid Passport

Your passport must be current and valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Birth Certificate

Provide an official copy of your birth certificate, which may need to be apostilled or authenticated depending on the country of issue.

Background Check

Submit a criminal background check from your country of residence. This document must show that you have no criminal record and is usually valid for a specific period, often six months.

Proof of Lifelong Pension

Demonstrate that you receive a minimum monthly income of US$1,000 from a retirement fund or permanent pension source. This proof typically involves submitting official statements or letters from the pension authority.
