Medical Tourism

In Costa Rica, the migration subcategory for individuals coming to the country for medical treatment allows foreigners to receive medical care legally and extend their stay if necessary. This subcategory is managed by the "Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería" and aims to facilitate access to high-quality medical services in the country.

Get your Permit

Requirements

Valid Passport

Your passport must be current and valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Hospital Certification

Provide a certification from the hospital (public or private) where you will receive medical treatment, confirming it is authorized by the Ministry of Health.

Certifications

Criminal record and birth certificate, if your stay exceeds six months, both legalized or apostilled.

Proof of Financial Solvency

Demonstrate that you have sufficient financial resources to cover your stay and medical treatment in Costa Rica.

All documents from abroad must be duly legalized, authenticated or apostilled. These documents need to be translated to spanish by authorized translator. Government fees are not included.
