Rentista

The rentista subcategory is designed for individuals with passive monthly incomes of at least $2,500. This residency can be renewed every two years, and after three consecutive years, you can apply for permanent residency. Individuals in this category are not permitted to work in Costa Rica or receive a salary from any Costa Rican institution or company.

Requirements

Valid Passport

Your passport must be current and valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.

Birth Certificate

Provide an official copy of your birth certificate, which may need to be apostilled or authenticated depending on the country of issue.

Background Check

Submit a criminal background check from your country of residence. This document must show that you have no criminal record and is usually valid for a specific period, often six months.

Proof of Lifelong Pension

Legal document from your local bank or a Costa Rican bank confirming a stable and permanent income of US$2,500.00 for the two years you will reside in the country.
